Don't forget....

Extra credit is due by the end of today, April 29, 2011. 

The extra credit was to read the Times magazine article entitled "Hell is Dead," and write 3 paragraphs about whether or not you agree with the article.  20 extra credit points

DJ:  What are the true goals of education?

Objectives: Understand Renaissance art, culture, education; who is Gutenberg and what are his contributions to society?

Activities: Learn about the characters of the Renaissance, ie Michelangelo, Geoffrey Chaucer (Canterbury Tales), Johannes Gutenberg, and Da Vinci
Video clips of each artist
Packet activity:  To be turned in at the end of class or on Monday or Tuesday, depending on which class period you are in

HOMEWORK:  Finish packet activity and start studying for the test on May 6 or May 9 - the review sheet has been posted

Current Events
DJ:  How do you sift truth from belief?
Objective:  Understand the meaning of humanism; who is Machiavelli?; What is the Renaissance?

Class activities:  Power point presentation (posted on the blog) called "Renaissance power point")
Blow the roof activity (last day)
Humanism activity (group work from the textbook; the textbook pages are also posted on the blog)
Clips from the Da Vinci Code (objective is to understand what the chalice is, why the characters are relating history back to the time period of Jesus Christ, and what the different sects of the Catholic Church are, ie Opus Dei)
Turn in the three sheets from the previous class period: 1) The Medieval Holocaust, 2) The Crusades, 3) The Black Death

HOMEWORK:  Finish "humanism" worksheet if you did not finish during class

**** NOTE:  All work from my (Mrs. Jolley) teaching the last 2 months needs to be turned in by MAY 5, 2011.  Mrs. Bowers will not accept any work (except the final test on the Renaissance) after I am finished at Timpview.  *****

Objective:  What are the Crusades - why did they occur?  Identify the origins and consequences of the Black Death (including the Medieval Holocaust)

Class activities:  Discussion of the Crusades, including the Children's Crusades and the Black Death
Videos of the Black Death:  1) Gwen Stefani rendition of the Black Plague, 2) Coroner's Report of how the flea infects the human body
Video of the Crusades: 1) Knights Templar of the Holy Land
3 reading activities: 1) A Medieval Holocaust, 2) The Crusades against Saladin, 3) An Italian writer's perspective of the Black Plague

HOMEWORK:  Finish your three reading/worksheet activities if you did not finish in class

ABC Activity: Read and identify terms in the World History textbook; find a term that begins with each letter in the alphabet and fill in your alphabet sheet

Picture activity: Compare and contrast pictures of the Virgin Mary and Jesus Christ; how are they similar or different than other pictures you have seen in your lifetime?
